NSBE Chapter Strategic Plan: Elevating Efficiency, Engagement, and Impact
Introduction
If I’m elected as NSBE president, I’m not just stepping into a role—I’m stepping into a responsibility. A responsibility to improve our structure, strengthen our community, and make sure every single member feels valued, seen, and supported.
This plan isn’t just about doing the basics. It’s about elevating NSBE into the kind of chapter that operates at its highest potential: efficient, collaborative, and built for the success of every single member.
It’s also important to note that while these initiatives reflect my ideas and leadership vision, they are not set in stone. I have spoken with almost every candidate running for Top V (excluding direct competitors in the presidential race) and received positive feedback on this plan. That said, collaboration and teamwork are essential. These ideas will only work if we move forward as a unified board.
1. Establishing Clear Structure & Accountability
Why It Matters
We can’t lead effectively if we’re operating in confusion. When responsibilities are unclear and leadership feels opaque, it results in burnout, inconsistent execution, and a lack of trust. These changes are designed to bring structure and transparency to our board and chapter.
Initiatives & Implementation
- Officer Role Clarification
- Create a living document with detailed responsibilities for each officer.
- Provide this during transition meetings so new officers have direction from day one.
- Hold a kickoff meeting each semester to realign everyone on responsibilities and expectations.
- Quarterly Leadership Evaluations
- Implement self-reflections and peer reviews to promote leadership growth.
- Conduct brief 1:1 mid-semester check-ins between Top V and CEB to assess progress and offer support.
- Monthly Office Hours with Leadership
- Designate one hour per month where officers host an open table for members.
- Rotating schedule between Top V and CEB to ensure accessibility and approachability.
- Transparency Tracker
- Use a shared Google Sheet or Notion board accessible to all members.
- Display what major projects/events each officer is currently working on.
- Updated monthly by officers as a form of self-accountability.
2. Improving Efficiency & Organization
Why It Matters
Strong leadership means nothing without organization. We owe it to ourselves and our members to be prepared, consistent, and structured. The goal is to prevent burnout and ensure smooth transitions from one year to the next.
Initiatives & Implementation
- 4/2/1 Event Planning Timeline
- All events will follow this rule: 4 weeks out (concept & logistics), 2 weeks out (promotion), 1 week out (finalize materials).
- Create templated checklists to help chairs and leads stay on track.
